How do I create a promotion?

Promotion Overview

Promotional discount codes can be used across sales channels and across all order types. They can be configured to offer customers a range of benefits & incentives, and their usage and applicability can also be customized and restricted to meet your business needs & goals.

To set up and manage your promotion codes, Admin > Marketing > Promotions. Select Create Promotion in order to add a new promotion. 

Create Promotion

Within the Create Promotion page, you will need to enter the following:

  • Code - the code that the customer will enter at checkout, codes should be all caps. 
  • Category - choose a promotion category from pre-configured promotion categories (promotion categories are configured within settings > marketing > promotion categories)
  • Start date - When does the promotion start?
  • Expiration date - When does the promotion end?
  • Description - What will this promotion offer to the customer?

Discount Details

  • Discount type - set the type of discount the promotion should be
    • percentage - % off discount (e.g. 10%)
    • fixed dollar amount - $ off discount (e.g. $10 off)
    • free product quantity - # of item discount (e.g. 3 items free)
  • Discount amount - set the amount of the discount based on the discount type
  • Free Delivery - add extra incentive to your promotion by offering free delivery
    • select yes or no

Promotion Rules

  • Min. Purchase Amount - Must spend at least this dollar amount to get the discount. 
  • Min. Items Quantity - Use this field for “buy X, get Y free” discounts. This value represents the number of items that must be purchased to receive the free discount.
    • Example: set this to 3, for a “buy 3, get 2 free” promo. The shopping cart must contain at least 5 items to receive the discount.
  • Max Discount Amount - Use this field if you want to cap the total discount amount that a customer can get.
    • Example: for a 40% off promotion, you might want to set this to $50.00 so that customers cannot receive more than $50.00 off their purchase.
  • Max Uses Per Customer - restricts how many times a customer can use a promo
  • Max. Uses Per Subscription - Use this field if the promotion is applicable to subscription orders in order to offer promotions such as:
    • $50 off across 2 subscription deliveries. To set up this type of promotion:
      • Set the Discount Amount to the PER ORDER discount amount (example: $25)
      • Set the Maximum Uses Per Subscription to 2
  • Allowable Customer - Determine the customers that are eligible for this promotion.
    • ALL customers, regardless of prior order history
    • ONLY customers that have never placed any order
    • ONLY customers that have never placed a subscription order
      • can be used by customers that have placed a prior one-time order
    • ONLY customers that have never placed a one-time order
      • can be used by customers that have placed a prior subscription order
  • Applicable Orders - determine the order types that are eligible for this promotion
    • ALL orders
    • Subscription orders only
    • One-time orders only
  • Applicable Channels - Determine the channel that is eligible for this promotion
    • All orders
    • Only delivery orders
    • Only in-store orders (at all locations)
    • Only in-store orders (at only specific locations)
    • Only in-store orders (at all locations except specific locations)
  • Applicable Products- Determine the products eligible for this promotion
    • All products/categories
    • Only specific categories
    • All categories except specific categories
    • Only specific products
    • All products except specific products
