How can I require delivery instructions during checkout?
You can choose to make Delivery Instructions a required field during checkout. This ensures customers provide any special notes your fulfillment team needs to successfully deliver their orders.
How to turn on this setting
- Go to Admin > Online Store > Templates > Checkout
- Click “Edit Settings”
- Under Checkout Properties, toggle on “Require customers to enter delivery instructions”

By default, this field is optional. Once you turn on the setting, customers won’t be able to complete checkout without entering something in the field.
What customers will see
When this setting is enabled:
- The Delivery Instructions field becomes required at checkout
- If the field is left blank, customers will see an error message asking them to enter delivery instructions

This applies to both web and mobile app checkouts

What you’ll see in the order
Once an order is placed, the delivery instructions will appear in the Order Details, just like before.
Things to keep in mind
- This setting applies to all supported checkout templates
- The requirement will stay active until you toggle it off
- Validation and error messages are consistent across web and app experiences
