Marketing Consent & Communication Preferences

Prado allows merchants to configure marketing consent for email and SMS, including where opt-in options appear and how customer preferences are managed. This article covers merchant settings, customer-facing behavior, and how consent is respected throughout the platform.

  • Prado supplies the technical infrastructure for collecting and honoring consent.
  • Each merchant controls their own marketing policies, including when and how consent is requested.
  • Prado does not determine legal requirements for marketing consent.
  • Merchants are responsible for ensuring their configuration and messaging comply with applicable laws and regulations in their jurisdiction (e.g., CAN-SPAM, TCPA, CASL, GDPR).

Prado supports compliant workflows by allowing merchants to:

  • Request explicit consent
  • Honor customer opt-out choices
  • Separate marketing communications from system and transactional messages

Merchant-Level Marketing Settings

Merchants can manage marketing consent settings at the organization level by navigating to:

Admin V2 → Online Store → Templates → Communications

Available Merchant Controls

Auto Opt-In Settings

If enabled, consent checkboxes will be checked by default when presented to customers.

⚠️ Merchants should review the laws in their region before enabling auto opt-ins.

Setting Description
Auto Opt-in to Marketing Email Messages Yes / No
Auto Opt-in to Marketing SMS Messages Yes / No

Marketing Opt-In Display Controls

Merchants can choose where marketing consent options appear.

Email Marketing Opt-In

  • Display email marketing opt-in on Sign-Up Modal (Yes / No)
  • Display email marketing opt-in at Checkout (Yes / No)

SMS Marketing Opt-In

  • Display SMS marketing opt-in on Sign-Up Modal (Yes / No)
  • Display SMS marketing opt-in at Checkout (Yes / No)

Customer-Facing Impact of Merchant Settings

  • If enabled: Customers may see checkboxes allowing them to opt into marketing communications.
  • If disabled: Customers will not see marketing opt-in options and will not receive those marketing messages.
  • Merchants can enable email only, SMS only, both, or neither.

During Sign-Up or Checkout
Depending on merchant configuration:

  • Customers may see Email Marketing and/or SMS Marketing opt-in checkboxes.
  • These checkboxes:
    • May be checked by default if auto opt-in is enabled
    • Can always be manually unchecked by the customer before completing sign-up or checkout

Managing Preferences After Sign-Up
Customers can update their communication preferences at any time by going to:

Account → Profile → Communication Preferences

From this page, customers can:

  • Opt-in or out of Email Marketing
  • Opt-in or out of SMS Marketing
  • Opt-in or out of SMS Order Updates

System vs Marketing Communications

  • Order-related email updates are always enabled and cannot be disabled
(e.g., order confirmations, receipts, fulfillment updates)
  • SMS order updates are optional and customer-controlled
  • Marketing preferences do not affect transactional or system messages

Email Marketing

  • Consent can be collected at sign-up and/or checkout
  • Customers can unsubscribe at any time via:
    • Communication Preferences
    • Reaching out to merchant's support channel

SMS Marketing

  • Consent must be explicitly granted
  • Customers can opt out at any time via:
    • Communication Preferences
  • SMS marketing consent is tracked separately from order-related SMS updates

Email and SMS consent are independent of each other.
