How Customers Are Charged for a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)
Customers who want a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) have two options:
- Request from their physician
- Request an automatic LMN through the site
Automatic LMN Eligibility
- At checkout, customers may see the option to check their eligibility for an LMN.
- This option only appears if the merchant has meals that are HSA/FSA eligible in their cart.
- Once eligible, customers can request an LMN directly on the site.
LMN Fee
- A non-refundable fee of $15 is charged to the customer for the LMN.
- If eligible, the LMN is associated with the customer’s account and can be used for future HSA/FSA orders.
How the Fee Works for Merchants
- The LMN fee is charged directly to the customer.
- Merchants do not pay this fee
- Merchants will see the LMN fee recorded as a platform fee, with their payout reflecting:
Total order amount − applicable platform fees − LMN fee
- The LMN fee is paid directly to the Telemed partner who issues the LMN.
Important Notes
- Merchants are not responsible for the LMN fee.
- Customers can reuse their LMN for future HSA/FSA eligible purchases once it’s issued until it expires.
- The LMN fee is non-refundable, even if the customer does not use the LMN.
