How do I set up a Product Modifier?
A product modifier refers to specific instructions or requests that a customer can make to customize their food order.
Product modifiers can include various options such as;
- adding or removing ingredients
- specifying cooking instructions
- requesting additional sauces or toppings
- choosing a specific portion size
For example, a customer might choose to add extra cheese to their pizza or request their burger to be cooked medium-rare.
Product modifiers are typically included as options, allowing customers to customize their orders to their liking easily. The use of product modifiers helps to provide a more personalized experience for the customer, as well as ensure that their food order meets their individual preferences and dietary restrictions.
From Admin, you can go to Settings > Products > Modifiers. From this page, you can add a Category or customize your existing modifier.
By adding a Category;
- Category Name - this is what your customers see on your website.
- Category Internal Name - internal terminology.
- Min. # - Minimum amount of modifiers your customers can choose within this category.

Max. # - Maximum amount of modifiers your customers can choose within this category.
The above image is an example. Assuming that you are selling popcorn and your customers can only choose at least 1 flavor per order which means if they want another flavor they have to place another order for popcorn.
Now that we have added a Category, it's time to add the modifiers or flavors to choose from.
- Modifier Name - this can be the name of the flavor or depends on your setup.
- Price - does this modifier come with a price or is it already included in the actual product price?
- Cost - this is for your internal costing.

Max Quantity - in case your Category is set to have a maximum # of more than one, you allow your customers to choose the same modifier twice or more.
Adding a Modifier to a Product
If a product has been added, you can select "Edit Product" and scroll to the Modifiers section.
You will see all of your Categories from this page and you just have to enable whichever Category you need for this product.
When you click on the "tickbox", it will change its color to green which means it's been enabled. From the dropdown, you can choose whether you only want a few modifiers from this Category to show on your website or if you'd like to set a default flavor.
Assigning a "Default" modifier means that if ever your customers do not choose from the dropdown it will be set to that default flavor.
Note: You can have multiple Categories or Modifiers in a single product. As shown from the example above, aside from popcorn flavors, you can add another Category for modifiers to have additional drinks or any products for upsell you have available that best comes with this product.
